As Putin’s war in Ukraine rages on some countries still support Russia, but why?

Last week, the United Nations General Assembly held a vote to condemn Russia’s illegal annexation of four regions in Ukraine. The resolution was supported by 143 countries but four voted against and 35 abstained.

As bombs reigned down on Ukrainian cities and killed civilians, why is it that 39 nations either still support Russia, or remain neutral in this war?

Today, our International Editor Lindsey Hilsum tells us about the countries that still back Moscow and explains whether any of them are beginning to change their minds as the war doesn’t go to plan for Putin.

Nobody talks about the illegal war in 🇮🇶 Iraq by US and UK. Where are the weapons of mass destruction?. IF America cannot tolerate Missiles in CUBA why should Russia tolerate NATO at its doorstep.

The war in Ukraine and the sanctions against Russia seems to weaken Europe for two generations or more. NATO did not adhere to the Minsk accords and stirred the pot by encroaching into Ukraine. The West needed this war and wanted this war. This might come back to bite Europe more than Russia. A very good interview none the less.

In order to know the present you must learn the history. The US lost the Korean War and also the Vietnam war(which the US started with a bogus story), both with Chinas assistance, the aggressor was always the US coming 8000KM to fight a war on someone else’s land.

I am African, and I have come across many other Africans from different countries that wholeheartedly support and love Russia. Some on social media are bots, but from some of the people I have spoken to, I have said, "Yelling Americans have invaded other nations before, and Russia should be able to defend themselves." I am honestly very impressed by how the Ukrainians are holding up against Russia and wish them all the best. It's quite embarrassing for Russia. Stand with Ukrainians

You fail to mention that Russia has been suggesting peace talks to end the conflict in Ukraine, and the West and the Ukrainians have absolutely refused to talk.

I don't think African will truly forgive what European Colonizers did and still do. The distruction of Lybia is still painful. We would be happy the day europe leave us to exist in peace as nature intent

Russia had been asking for years that the Minsk agreements be adhered to and that NATO would stop its expansion as was promised. Antony Blinken stated that NATO has been training and arming Ukrainians forces in Donbass since 2014. Also since 2014 ethnic Russian citizens of Ukraine were shelled on a daily basis. In the days leading up to the SMO, the shelling became more frequent. Adhering to the Minsk agreements and curbing NATO expansion would have prevented the SMO but the absolute opposite was done.

Colonialism Is not the reason.
During the cold war most African countries adopted the non-aligned movement. In a sense they won't be dictated who their friends are. Also NATO bombed libya despite AU saying no. France is still acting coloniser in West Africa. So it's not in reaction of the past transgressions but current ones
