First Look: Fujifilm X-T4

This is my first look at the new Fujifilm X-T4. This is technically an update to the X-T3, but it's also an amalgamation of the X-H1 and the X-T3. Although this uses the same sensor and processor of the X-T3 with an improved version of the X-H1's IBIS mechanism, the new firmware also makes this camera feel like more than JUST an amalgamation. In fact, it feels like an all new camera. Or perhaps it feels like what the original X-H1 should have felt like? Please enjoy my very long first look at the X-T4 as I go over the physical upgrades as well as the internal ones. I also compare the new X-T4 with the X-H1, X-T100, X-Pro3 and of course the X-T3. If you have either of these cameras, is the X-T4 worth the upgrade?

Although I have yet to post any links to the new X-T4, please consider using my affiliate links below to either B&H or Amazon. No matter what you purchase through the link, I will receive a small commission of the sales. Yes, even if you buy toilet paper, I will receive a percentage of the sales and you will still get the best available price. This is one small way you can support my small (and struggling) Youtube channel.

This is one Camera that other manufacturers should take full notice on ...
From ergonomics & beautiful looks, fully articulating screen, easy still/movie switch, packed with Cinematic features, etc....
As Hughe Branson said quite correctly, " Boundary Busting, Headache inducing, & Jolt to rest of industry ", ..
I wish this was a full frame camera then it would have taken the Crown ....well done FUJI 👌👌👌👏👏👏

I don’t even need the XT-4 but your excitement is contagious! I’m particularly impressed with Fuji’s implementation of a much smaller IBIS unit and with their use of magnetic control in place of springs. Their design aesthetic and engineering skills are outstanding.

Excellent review and comparison with other X models 😊 I'm not disappointed in anyway with my X-H1s and your review has confirmed it was the right choice for me. Thank you for the extensive review 😊👍🏻

Great initial review. Looking forward to your review once you spend time with XT4 in the field. Thanks

I still shoot cinematic videos on my XT3. I still love it. But the XT4! too enticing! Thanks for the first look video!

I like having the screen closed completely too! Less fuss!

The 2, 5mm remotes are used quiet a lot by landscape photographers in remote locations.

Also some videographers have a simple button mounted to the rig to start/stop recording, useful if your large rig obscures the native shutter.

Thanks for your video, cheers! 🦄

I hope they will add many of the firmware updates to the X-T30. Don’t forget the little guy.

Nice, even-handed review. It was a long video, but worth every second.

Curious about the comparison between the XT4 and the XPRO3. I’m shooting on an XT3 and an X100V. I’m considering a third body or selling my XT3.

I love both my x100 and XT3, but have grown really fond of the rangefinder style. Except for the eye relief, as I wear glasses.

Any thoughts on XPRO vs XT?

I shoot portraits and headshots.

PS: I must say, that shutter on the XT4 is…wow. I love that you opened the video with it!

so many cameras get released, I'm still using my XE2 from years and years ago. No reason to upgrade

The xh1 is styled after the gfx 50 med format pro camera and the xh1 is part of that pro range

Basically they made one that 90% of people prefer, but I do not. I'll stick with my X-T2 for now (lighter, slimmer, made in Japan), and hope that the X-E series makes a comeback I guess.
Or that there is an X-Pro3S that brings back the D pad.

Taco thanks for the vid. So grateful for your vids. Mind asking Fuji to give us tap to track so we have our own version of dual pixel af? Been really missing that. All other major companies have this AF feature. I’m also disabled so it’d be a wonderful addition. They certainly have the tech

Great review, thanks for sharing your thoughts! A question remains for me: what is the TIFF file exactly? Just an export of a flat raw, or does it include all of the jpeg processing like film simulation etc.? It would be awesome to get a tiff file that looks as awesome as the jpeg, but then have a lot more room to edit them without losing much quality. That would be very nice to have!
