We drive the Toyota Land Cruiser 200 Series and see what this full-size 4WD is like.

The Toyota Land Cruiser 200 Series is right at the end of its life, but this large off-road wagon is still more than worthy of a close look. Quickly firming as a modern classic, the 200 Series will likely be the final Land Cruiser to use a V8 engine. In Australia, it’s a twin-turbo V8 diesel only, through the related Lexus LX offers a petrol V8 as well.

As we await the imminent arrival of the 300 Series Land Cruiser, should you still consider a 2021 Land Cruiser 200 Series diesel over a Nissan Patrol or even something like a Range Rover? Is this the vehicle for you?

In today’s video, John takes a detailed look at a well-specified Land Cruiser Sahara 4x4 to give you detailed insights about this vehicle.

Like they say in Australia, "if you want to go into the outback, get a Land Rover, if you want to come back, buy a Land Cruiser"....

The Landcruiser has everything you will ever need in a car. This thing is unstoppable and (almost) indestructible. If I had the cash, I’d buy one in an instant.

If you can live the dated technology, this is a purchase for life

The main selling point of this land cruiser is that it won’t depreciate for the next 10 years...

It’s a funny thing. There’s no way my head could justify owning one of these and yet I want one so badly.

I grabbed one of the last ones to be built. Still on the production line in Feb '21 delivery in March/April.
They've always held their value but I reckon the V8s will always command a premium. Getting out of a GU Patrol with the turbo TD42 and auto, which I'll miss, but even the 200 is a lot more modern than it!

Your best review yet John. Footage of the Sahara following the camera car is superb, great camera work.

Long Live the V8! when these hybrid V6 powertrains start dying to rust I would bet these V8's are still going strong.

reliability is what you're getting for the price, can't do that in a land rover

Choice between Landrover Defender and Toyota 200 for the same money? Hmmm...I'll have the Toyota, please. It's not, nor has it ever been, a question of luxury for money. It's about reliability and durability. Something the new Defender is not (yet, and maybe never will be) known for.

I’d pick the reliable Toyota Land Cruiser over the unreliable Land Rover defender anyday

Got one, love it. Wouldn’t even consider buying the LC300 V6 or the V6 hybrid due in the coming years.

Defender for the same money??! Is that a joke?? An absolute legend that will outlive you or a piece of plastic crap that will be lucky to drive from one mechanic to the next

I think the Land cruiser is prized for reliability, which is number one priority when in remote Australia. Go anywhere with confidence is well worth the money.

Bought a Pajero exceed new in 2004 put 400k on the clock loved it. Traded it on a Prado two years ago and couldn't believe the difference in all aspects, when i heard the 200 series was going i had to have one. Six months later and as the ad says I'm still feeling it.

I own a 2019 LC200, would never get rid of it or buy a hybrid, although don’t have to worry about it since they are no longer available in the US after this year. Maybe the 300’s will have all of the latest and fancy electronics that all of the reviewers want, but then there goes the reliability.🤔

Hello from USA! I snatched up a LandCruiser Heritage edition! Interesting to know that in USA this is now discontinued. I’ve had several Suburbans but love this TANK!

I am driving it here in Japan, never going to any rough road. This car is good to drive in cities, except drinking too much gas.
