Показать описание
These two screech owl hatchlings were turned in to Raptor Recovery Nebraska on May 2nd, 2012. They may have been abandoned by the parent bird, or the parent bird was injured or killed. They are probably around five days old. They made a quick stop at Fontenelle Forest Nature Center in Bellevue, NE, before going to their foster home. They will be raised with other owls and released into the wild at maturity.

Here is what they will look like when mature:

A couple of years ago I assisted in an owl tagging yearly project as part of a bio class, up in northern Michigan. We only caught a few saw whet owls on my night catch, but other groups caught great horned, barred and once a barn, I think. I would have loved to see a great horned, baby or grown! Great video, I'm very jealous. They're too damn adorable!

I can't be sure at all really. I just saw the owls as they were passing through on the way to their Raptor Recovery home. They were turned in to one of their volunteers by someone -- and that's the story they gave. It is sometimes almost impossible to retrace where they came from because they switch hands several times when they are brought in (ex: neighborhood kid finds them, someone else who lives close by brings them to a nature center, wildlife rescue takes them to Raptor Recovery, etc.)

I am lucky to have Oskar and Klaus of course -- but I also come across some great sights at the nature center in Bellevue, Nebraska (basically a suburb of Omaha). Thank you for watching!

They can certainly bit a finger pretty hard -- but I don't think they could snip one off. I have a link in the description to what they look like as adults (via Wikipedia). They don't get too big.

I hate it when people say a baby is ugly. You werent exactly beautiful when you were born either. If not, humans are worse than any animal out there. We are the ugliest babies in the world!!! These baby owls are precious lives-3

Hello! These babies will be kept with other screech owls that are being rehabilitated in a large outdoor enclosure. They will be taught how to hunt and fly by a staff of experts. I will make a point of visiting Raptor Recovery Nebraska this summer to film their work. They have a great track record of preparing animals for release into the wild. I wish I could be more specific with my answer, but I don't have all of the information now.

They eat pieces of mice that are purchased frozed from a supplier then thawed out and cut into smaller bits. This is similar to what the parent bird would do when feeding the babies.

They did lose the parent somehow -- there was really no information given by the person who brought them in to Raptor Recovery Nebraska.
