I work in cyber security (malware research) and the overall opinion on Apple's response to the security community is very poor. They ignore researchers like this one and they have also removed smaller anti malware apps from their app store citing that basically telling people they have malware is a bad user experience. Their position on privacy only works when it is easier for customers to understand the impact. Most people do not understand T2 chips and exploits, but everyone knows when the feds want a back door in iOS publically. As always they have profits in mind at the expense of their customers security, which ultimately will hurt their privacy in the long run. The state of security for Apple products is really really bad due to the limitations Apple puts on researchers and AV vendors. But again, your average Apple normie user does not understand and by entension, unfortunately care little because of their lack of knowledge. This lack of knowledge is caused by Apple sweeping their shit under the rug and paying people to maintain hiding sed shit like in the Apple forum. If you cant see your device is being exploited or has malware, the better the user experience...

Reuse is more important than theft prevention. Only some computers will ever be stolen, but every computer will eventually be sold, given away, or recycled. We need to make it easier to reuse these perfectly good machines—especially in situations where the original owner may not have had the chance to remove their passcode lock, such as when the owner passes away.

I use to work for a recycler doing PC builds and minor repairs. with knowledge from the original owner (sometimes large businesses) we would refurbish laptops and desktops for sale with a portion going to local schools. We were able to use the "DOD approved wiper to destroy all data, which was great. Early apples, not a problem.
What got me were the hundreds of large capacity HDs we had to scrap because we could not get the password.
I am a big supporter of right to repair and a Right to your data.
Love the videos.

MM-DD-YY is such a backwards date format... DD-MM-YYYY arranges in terms of ascending period magnitude. Y-M-D formats are descending. But it makes no sense to put M-D-Y in numerics since there is no spoken convention to interfere here. Logically day should come first, then month, then year. Month-day-year always triggers my OCD.

If Apple refused to respond, then they dont have any standing in court. Screw them.

If Apple cared they would try to contact the device owner in their records to see if an iPad etc someone brings in is stolen. If the owner responds that they sold it, gave it away, lost it and don't care, then Apple should unlock it and erase the data on it. If the owner wants it back, then keep it and ship it to the owner or have the owner come to the Apple Store to pick it up.

But nope. Apple Wants as many of their product as possible to become useless, worthless bricks that cost more in labor to make safe for shredding than the value of the recoverable metals in them.

That's the opposite of being "green".

I feel completely the same. Thank you for shining light on this, hope the hackers aren’t sued or something.

I have to agree with Saif. Someone is going to figure out a way to make hard to get chips and sell them. That is the new frontier. "Generic" chips that perform like name brand chips. Alright, where did I put my
