It’s funny how with more experience we become less productive. I feel like I am at 50% of where I used to be in terms if passion, progress, etc. between my career, freelancing and teaching it’s been close to 15 years and I am ready to move more towards the business side of things

When it comes to friends outside of development, it may be more an issue of whether you move to a new place for a job or not. I have friends who are not in programming/development. But I've been living where I do for years.

In my previous career, I moved to a new city all by myself, a couple of times, and my only friends were people I knew from work ... at least initially. Once I involved myself in some different social groups and activities, my friendship circle grew. It's more about moving to a new place by yourself, rather than the specific job. Also, never underestimate the value of taking less pay to work in a much less stressful environment.

So I actually don’t have a lot of developer friends aside from people I work with. Most of my friends are church friends or friends from high school that I still chat with. I really feel like that has done a lot of good for me. It allows me to leave work and leave the world of programming behind when I hang out with them. It’s good to get your mind off of your job on a regular basis. The grind doesn’t have to be at a fast pass, it just has to be at a pace in general. I’m currently making a switch from web development to mobile development and I’m taking my sweet time doing it. Enjoy the ride man. Don’t focus to much on the destination.

Whoa... I was just talking about a similar topic with a twitch streamer yesterday I learned a little more about myself throughout my 3 years of SWE. As you mentioned about coding at work, I also do not enjoy coding at work due to the stress. I much prefer coding a personal app but I feel so tired of coding after work. After giving it some thoughts, I am looking to go into a Product Management PM or Software Development Manager SDM role. I am interested in learning more about the decisions that went behind designing a product and managing different engineering groups to tackle on the problem.
I was wondering if this career switch is something you are also thinking of doing? Would love to see videos on how a software engineer transition to a PM / SDM role.

I want to get there so bad, but I feel like I'm in that pizza delivery boy stage... The difference is, I was in the military, went to college, bought a house, had kids. I did all that first before I decided I really wanted to dive in, and now I'm stuck. I have to work 60 hours a week to get by, not really getting out of debt, kids are expensive and time consuming, and at the end of the day I don't have time to learn how to code... Dylan thanks for the reality video and keeping us all in check

I'm 7 months into learning JavaScript, I don't know anyone that codes. Do you have any suggestions how to go about meeting or connecting with other people that code? Your content is awesome, and extremely helpful. Thank you
