Teenager dies after falling from ride at Orlando's ICON Park

A teenager fell to his death while riding an Orlando-area drop tower attraction, according to officials with the Orange County Sheriff's Office.

Its troubling to see the lack of procedures when it comes to restraining the passengers & then double checking to see if the harness is locked. I worked at Stratosphere in Vegas back in 99 & operated the big shot, which is very similar to this ride. Not only did it have a shoulder harness which can lock in multiple positions depending on the size of the rider. But it also had a seat belt that comes up from in between their legs and attaches to the harness to act as a failsafe in case the locking mechanism on the harness fails. Also after we restrain them, and the ride "weighs" the load so the computer knows how much force to launch with, we then would check every harness to verify that its locked before launch.

I saw the actual footage, the person who was in charge of the ride should be punished to the fullest. He didn’t even react to the incident and seemed very careless. Very sad to see for it seems peoples hearts are growing wax cold towards others…

Based on the video, the victim’s restraint was hardly closed at all. My guess is the operator did not properly secure the rider. A seatbelt would’ve helped, and the tilting aspect certainly increased his chance of slipping through the gap when the ride started to slow down.

I could never understand how people trust their lives to a harness and some over worked underpaid park ride attendee.

I would imagine he died upon impact. Parks don’t want to admit someone died on their property so they call time of death after they leave the park. Shady as hell.

There's no strap between the legs only the bars over the shoulders. All rides need to have straps between legs period. So sad. I can't unser the video. Prayers to the family 🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏

The ride shouldn’t be blamed it’s the worker that should be blamed who didn’t take the time to make sure everything was secured because it always usually works out and the place will just have to handle it

I went on this ride back in February, they don’t even check you at ALL. You get in and secure yourself on your own. Definitely don’t recommend going on this.

This is really sad, a 14yr old to go out this way, I hope his family recovers, I know it’s gona be really hard, but this park needs to get shutdown, I’m never doing any roller coaster anymore after this.
