For someone anyone who studied Spanish, zhī dào is like saber and rèn shi is like conocer. They have exactly the same meanings.

I like translating 知道 as to know of and 认识 as to know.
In Spanish, to know of is saber and to know is conocer.

In English we have canteen and cantina. A canteen would be a place on a boat or train where you can eat but a cantina is a proper restaurant. I think it comes to English through Spanish.

In Swedish we also differentiate between the meaning of 知道 and 认识
我知道 = Jag vet
我认识你 = Jag känner dig

Hi! Great video for me - just finishing HSK 1.
I think I found a minor mispelling @7:00:
In the pinyin for 为什么你要学汉语呢 you write "kan yu ne" in the end. Should be "han yu ne", I suppose.

It would be great to see traditional characters as well as simplified. Those of us learning Mandarin to use in Taiwan or various international communities would really benefit from that. Thanks!

I’m coming a little late to the party but your 4 year old video cleared up so many things for me.Xie Xie

The biggest difficulty in trying to understand Mandarin is that too many of the words (as well as syllables, such as the virtually identical "ci, si, zi" group, for example) sound the same. This, combined with my inability to both hear and say the tones, has prevented me from learning Mandarin.

when first started studying Chinese I used to get confused why I can't use 不有 because in my family's dialect we would say it using that word instead of 没有. Thanks for the video!
