For how popular the image of Sadako climbing out the TV had become in the past few years, I think people have mostly forgotten on how genuinely frightening the original Ring really is.

Bro, I swear pastra is so funny, cause I know exactly how this video happened. “I’m fucking terrified. I haven’t slept in 3 days cause I’m afraid of sadako…….. I must have MORE!”

Oh god, Pastra, please tell me you didn't watch this on VHS, Pastra you can only take so many kidnapping subplots

"When we look back to the screen this happens!" *a energy bar ad starts playing*

Apparently, there was a deleted scene from the movie where one of Sadako's victims ran them around a car, dropped a wooden pallet on her and blinded her with a flashlight. It had to be cut due to the physical and mental toll the scene took on Sadako's actor.

Something I learned about a good number of Asian ghost stories: just giving the ghost closure won't be enough. You are done. Your family is cursed, it didn't matter how innocent they were, how minor the infraction, once a malevolent ghost is aware of you, you're basically doomed. Ju-on, Incantation, Ringu, Noroi, The Medium... The pain, fear, and rage captured in the moment of death cannot be exorcised easily... Once a ghost is aware of your existance, its only a matter of time.

Riko: “No! It can’t be! Why are you still haunting us?”

Sadako: “Well, you got me. By all accounts it doesn’t make sense.”

In summary, to quote from Scary Movie 3:

"Thank you... now I dont have to kill anymore...."

"Nah, I'm screwin' with ya! Still evil."

Lord, there’s something wrong with the way Sadako climbs out of the tv in the original. It doesn’t look like CG, but it doesn’t look like a practical effect, either. It doesn’t look like layered footage (green screen or its equivalents). It just looks *wrong*, while also clearly being real

i also love the reveal that what asakawa hears on the phone isn’t a voice saying ‘you have seven days’ but just a strange scraping sound

Can we take a second to appreciate how this was edited? No demon oc, no original background, and no intro like Pastra’s normal videos. Just clips from the film with a VHS filter. Really gives that feeling of unease

I see what you mean, Sadako Yamamura, the girl who can kill you just by looking at you would scare me too, and her staring is just a whole another level of creepy, also adding the fact that I've never heard her say a word ever would also have me scared and stashing weapons round my house

This did well back when fake-out endings were not used a lot, but nowadays, it's kinda expected that the horror protagonist ALWAYS dies. It kinda sucks, especially when you have a lot of expectations riding on this.

The funny thing is that while I knew you would be talking about this scene, your interpretation of it is something I've never thought about. The way I saw it was that it turned out not to be a curse like we were led to believe, but rather the tape being imbued with psychic power and pure malice thus allowing Sadako to have passed away and her spirit to be elsewhere while the tape simply carries out its programming and ends anyone unfortunate enough to watch it. From a logic stand point it makes sense, cause if Sadako's spirit was the one doing the killing she would have probably broken the "rules" and ended Reiko as well, but damn - narrative wise your interpretation is just too good!

Your introduction to this video reminds me of something Mary Shelley, the writer of the original Frankenstein, said about her work…I can't remember the exact quote, but it was something along the lines of "True horror makes you afraid to look around the room, " or something like that - basically, exactly what you described Ring doing to you. I actually kinda had a similar reaction to the original Frankenstein novella myself, ironically - it didn't really scare me while I was reading it, but afterwards I was afraid of every little shadow in the room around me.

That first line is amazing. It is what horror is and about to the point.

There’s also the fact that even if you ran out of the room, you’d still die regardless. Sadako previously killed other victims in a car, running or driving away was never an option. Only through copying the tape and sharing it to someone else before your time is up, you can escape her curse. No other option exists if you’re already cursed. However, if there’s someone who I fear above Sadako, that’s Kayako by a long shot.

I had a very similar reaction to the film skinamarink. I was anxious during the film sure, but I didn't feel any fear until the next night where I could barely fall asleep

It's actually so horrible that the cycle of rage and hate was renewed by a selfless act of love and kindness, I'm gonna throw up

These days the visual of Sadako coming out of the TV is everywhere in pop culture. But when I first watched Ringu when I was a teenager I had never heard of it.
So imagine my reaction when I was thinking “Okay, she’s walking toward the camera again, so wha- OH GOD!”
Once in a lifetime experience right there.
