T-Mobile has launched its own branded 5G mobile hotspot device simply called the "T-Mobile 5G Hotspot." The device itself is made by Quanta Computer, a Taiwan-based electronics company that is best known for manufacturing laptops for companies like Dell and Apple.

This new device has similar technical specifications to T-Mobile's existing 5G hotspot, the Inseego M2000, which is still for sale on T-Mobile's website. The new hotspot is priced at $198.

Data caps is like paying for Cell phones minutes. It should be banned at this point. It's primitive and just price gauging honest customers.

If it's not unlimited at this point it's not worth it people. Like I really do believe customers should start asking for a true unlimited hotspot on 5G that say is capped at 25 Mbps for download and 10 Mbps upload with no slow downs. ATAT did this years ago but it was only 3 Mbps and it was interesting. So I would definitely recommend seeing if you can give them feedback and make sure they understand as what ATAT had was actually pretty smart for the time. I don't see why they don't do this as I stated they use a cap on the speed but not the data and with no slow down. It would be great for OTR Drivers and with TMO 5G great things could come from this.

Thanks for all you do!!! I tried to purchase the Quanta D53. Only data option was 50 G for $50 per month. I was hoping to get 100G for $50 like I do for $55 for 100 G from AT&T.

I just got this device earlier this week. I'm really unhappy with it. As some others have noted, the device gets very hot while it is in use. Also, this device is constantly disconnecting from the T-Mobile network. When it disconnects, I checked my phone line to see if it's a tower problem. My phone will be connected just fine, but this hotspot device will be completely disconnected from the internet. It displays a message of looking for network. I tried doing a full factory reset and that did not fix the issue. We also tried putting a new SIM card into it and that did not fix it either. Unfortunately, T-Mobile is completely unwilling to do anything to get this device fixed. I know a software update could most likely fix this issue. So I am going to hang on to it and wait for a software update to come out to see if that fixes it. Since this device is so new, it has not had any software update pushed out to it yet. Hopefully they will push out a software update that will resolve the connectivity issue. Until then, this device is nothing more than a paperweight for me.

But the question is can you game on it? I hear there is an issue with online gaming with the M2000. I wish T Mobile would offer an unlimited 5G data plan for their hotspots.

Been using this thing for around half a month and well…… it’s starting to act up and overheat quite a bit. Hope it works good for you though! 👍

I have a return shipping label and the Quanta D53 is going back to T-Mobile tomorrow and my plan canceled. The problem I had was the device would connect to the 5G network but no internet would be displayed. A change of location wouldn't help. A factory reset fixed the problem once but the device quickly went back to the same problem after a couple of days and now a factory reset doesn't even help. It's nothing more then a paperweight IMO.

We just called t mobile today and they are selling the 5G MiFI M2000 for only $168 if you sign a 2 year agreement if you back out of the 2 year agreement then you have to pay the other $168. So at least here In Oregon the M2000 is cheaper by $30.

What's the difference in using a 5G hotspot vs using a 5G internet provided by T-Mobile and Verizon?

I'll wait until they have something as good as Clear was.

Great review as usual. No external antennas, no use to me. I need a rooftop omnidirectional MIMO, and possibly MIMO yagis.

The usb port looks like USB-C. I wonder if you can use a USB-C ethernet dongle...

How does it compare to entry level 5g android which can provide similar use?

So i'm looking into getting this hotspot device. My question is, can i throw my phone's sim card into & expect it to work? I'm not expecting the device to have unlimited data, i just want it to use the hotspot data that I have on my phones plan. I currently have 100gigs of hotspot & using a alcatel linkzone hotspot device but it's only 4g & the battery is just 1700mah. Or if there is a better device that you know of please comment, I would love to look into it.

Went to Leland, MI yesterday and had no T-Mobile service. Leland is a popular summer tourist and boating harbor on Lake Michigan with many fine restaurants and shopping locations.

So I really was hoping one of these devices supported external antennas. Is there another option? I can do with a thin pipe but if the reception is no better than my phone, I see little reason to spend anything.
