Compare a flail mower vs a brush hog vs a finish mower. It's no secret we love flail mowers. We sell a ton every year from Italy's Del Morino. There are so many advantages to a flail mower over a finish mower or a brush hog, but that doesn't mean it's the perfect solution for everyone. Still, we'll cover why we think it's the best of the bunch.

Purchased the 62" Del Morino Funny Top Flail Mower with Y blades a year ago and have not regretted it for a second. More expensive than the others, yes. But I also have a brush hog that I've only used once since buying the flail mower. We use the flail mower for finish cut mowing roughly 4 acres of meadowgrass/lawn as well as knocking down a lot of taller weeds and smaller woody material. It's also compact enough that I usually just leave it installed as a ballast weight when moving material with the bucket.

Purchased the 62" Del Morino Funny Top Flail Mower with hammer blades June last year>. I have used it for brush cutting and grass it has become my favorite over my 4ft brush hog. The offset is very handy around trees and fences. I have not used the brush hog since. Thank you Courtney.

I have a 5’ brush hog that I used to help clear heavy brush and such along my fenceline as it reaches back further than the 62” Del Marino I own with Y blades. I wish you could include photos as I use the flail mower to cut my yard and it looks great with that! Another unspoken advantage is the flail mower seems so much quieter than the brush hog at working speeds. I didn’t want a Z-turn to mow my lawn as I’m retired and seat time on my tractor is therapy as my wife says!

I have a 7' Bush Hog capable of cutting down 4" trees, but that's not really what I need. After somewhat extensive research, I have concluded that a flail mower would suit me much better. Your well done video confirms that. Thanks.

I'm a european and am using a flail mower, i can't imagine using a brush hog. It does it all and i really like how it's shorter and more maneuvrable.

My first experience with a flail mower was in 1970, we had one at my first job. Have not seen one for many years, so when I purchased my 3025E (I didn't want a belly mower, so cheaper than the 1025R) I included a finish mower in the package. With 12 acres to keep cut, the Funny Top was a game changer. The finish mower has been buried in the corner since, not sure when or if it might be back in service again.

Brush cutting has served very well. I have mowers for the lawn. Pasture cutting the cows love the long grass left behind. Good information anyway to be considered.

Great Video! Wish I had seen this 14 or 15 years ago when I bought by Kubota with a finishing mower - that flail mower is the way to go.

Bought a 62” Woodmaxx flail mower with hydraulic side shift function. I got the Y-blade option on it. Totally agree that it does both functions well. It knocks off about 20% of the time with my new Bobcat CT2025 that my old Kubota BX’s mid mount mower took, too.

I have a frontier gm1048e finish mower and a speedco cat 1 e-hitch. I bought a shot-trap top link adapter and it works great.

That Top Link attachment that flips around on the finish mower is for “Independent Float” of the mower from the tractor as it oscillates over uneven ground. The lower pins can be locked into place to limit some of the excess movement or you can get the quick hitch attachment that further locks the mower into place but gives u the fire and aft movement. I have all 3 (rotary cutter, flail mower, finish mower) with most of my use coming from the flail or finish mower.

After months of research, I bought the Bellonmit Flail mower (55", Y-blades) for Mahindra Max 26 XLT. Very clean cut and better mulching capability. Using it next to public road and since it is compact and enclosed, nothing flies out of it.

I do have all 3. A 6' brush hog, 6' finish mower and 2 6' flail mowers. One flail is a rough cut John Deere 25A and a Mott mower with finish cut knives. I use my Ford 4000 for mowing and it handles all the mowers with ease. I do like the flail mowers for almost every cutting job but for very heavy cutting, or cutting where you need to back into the cut I do prefer the brush hog. For mowing the 3 acres around my home I do like the finish mower best. But for cutting the pasture fields the flail mower wins hands down. If you don't have the luxury of owning more than one mower, I'd agree and say pick the flail mower.
