Voter suppression has a 150 year history in the U.S. with barriers to the ballot box disproportionately affecting minority voters. From the end of the Civil War through the Civil Rights Movement to more than 360 bills with restrictive provisions in 45 states today, voter suppression has taken on many forms but the goal remains the same. Dr. Thomas J. Ward Jr., Historian, acclaimed author and Assistant Dean of the School of Arts and Sciences at Farmingdale State College shares how history is influencing voter restrictions today and into the future.
