I think it’s still good to discuss with your partner what you want to give each other. How you can work to become each others ideal. As long as you can establish that the ideal cannot be reached but that truly always working towards it, is good enough.

This is soo insightful I never even thought about it like this. But... big but... this is sometimes why relationships can also bring out the best in each other, pushing for better, just for the other person as long as your both stimulated to do that in the same respect.

When there is mutual infatuation at the beginning of our relationship, oxytocin levels are sky high. We idealize the partner and after the oxytocin comes back down to baseline level in 8 to 16 weeks. In the early stages of infatuation the neuromodulator dopamine also goes through the roof and “cements“ the Superman and superwoman image creating an ideal that can never be matched.

Her story is wild and she shared it so eloquently. I had a partner that behaves the same way and I’ll never understand what went through his mind. She is lucky they can put the kids before the issues they have with each other. I think modern day relationships are very hard no matter how “good” the initial due diligence we all do is.
