What happens inside a fitting to create a permanent connection when pressed?

#ViegaPress fittings from ½” – 2” require press jaws to create a hexagonal pressing pattern, which bonds the fitting and tube and provides the mechanical strength needed for the connection. Fittings 2 ½ ” and above require press rings and an actuator to achieve the same result, but instead, use the grip ring’s teeth to bite into the tube and lock the fitting securely in place.

Whether it’s a hexagonal press or a grip ring making the connection, Viega fittings are built to last. 💪 #TechTipTuesday

Love this tool. I wish I could make payments to buy one for myself. Once I have to tool, I could do twice the jobs to pay it off!

How do you know if a pro press tool meets specs to press a fitting? And not a knockoff that will be out of spec and the joint will fail eventually?

They should make an attach to put inside the pipe to backstop all that pressure and then also it would make a tighter seal

Thank you for destroying a $50 fitting and a $8 dollar fitting to show us what happens inside the contraption.

Imma be straight pressing over 2” copper pipe is lame. The solder fitting for a 3” copper fitting is literally like a 1”1/2 long. It’s kind of hard to have a leak on a 3” soldered fitting
