Ex-Amish Misty Griffin: Child Sex Abuse in The Amish Community (LIVE Q&A)

Most Americans' image of the #Amish is that of simple farmers, shutting out modern technology and outside influences. However, ex-Amish Misty Griffin is here to share a darker side to Amish life. There are accusations of rampant abuse, which the accusers say they were never able to talk about.

Griffin joined an Amish community at the age of 18, but fled after she was raped by a bishop who was supposed to protect her. Griffin's new life with the conservative Amish society reportedly began when she was 18 years old.

Although she was originally pleased with the change from living on an isolated mountain farm where she had been nurtured in Amish customs, her joy eventually transformed into her worst dread.

My wife and I live near Lancaster. Our friend works in a Lancaster Dr office and tells us of Amish patients, no specific identities. There have been regular stories of brother sister incest. They don’t seem to think there are many babies from this. The stories are so common there no one is shocked. We were shocked, but if we heard this every day we would cease to be.
The Amish farm parents have a logic: the brother needs to get his farm work done and he works much better when he is satisfied..as much as he wants. Better able to concentrate on his jobs. They imply the sister may be quite willing and you wonder if the girls are having pleasure as well, or is just another chore. The adults regard sex acts as very necessary and inevitable practice, but never ever to be discussed. This idea is passed on to the children as a normal thing because it isn’t condemned. These people supposedly live by God and and the Bible and are incredibly strict…except when it comes to sex. Worst thing is when it happens at ages under 14, 15 and there is no consent, no choice. I grew up with sisters and this just wasn’t thought of let alone done.

In my opinion I don't think the government cares. For example there's a movie that's trying to get out for people to see about the truth of child trafficking and it keeps being delayed
