Bats are heavier when held from the handle. Why?

Why does a cricket bat (or anything for that matter) appear heavy when held from one end, but doesn't when held at the middle? It's the same thing, it has the same weight. In this video, we will explore how the concept of torque and moments help us answer this question!

Intuitively it makes sense. But if you drew a free body diagram and equated the forces in the Y direction, the normal force of your thumb would be the same? Maybe it's physiological because of the applied torque difference, or maybe there is something wrong with my statics analysis? Anyway love your videos here and on Khan.
