Dragon's Lair HD is a video game franchise created by Rick Dyer and Don Bluth. The series is famous for its western animation-style graphics and convoluted decades-long history of being ported to many platforms and being remade into television and comic book series.

The first game in the series is titled Dragon's Lair, originally released for the arcades in 1983[1] by Cinematronics. It uses laserdisc technology, offering greatly superior graphics compared to other video games at the time.[2] The game was ported to several other platforms, but as no home system technology of that era could accommodate the graphical quality of laserdisc, several abridged versions of the original game were released under different names.[3] The first true sequel, Dragon's Lair II: Time Warp, would only appear in 1991. While its graphics were once again praised, the poor controls and limited interactivity kept it from reaching the popularity of the original.[4]

The two main Dragon's Lair HD games in the series are considered gaming classics[5] and are constantly re-released for each new generation of consoles.[6] In 2010, they were bundled alongside the unrelated 1984 Bluth Group game Space Ace in the Dragon's Lair Trilogy which was made available across numerous platforms.[6]

Dragon's Lair HD forays into other media include a short-lived cartoon series that aired on ABC in 1984 and a comic-book miniseries released in 2003. Plans for a feature-length film have existed since the 1980s and have resurfaced in 2015, when Bluth launched a crowd-funding campaign to secure funds for a Dragon's Lair movie pitch.[7] After an initially unsuccessful bid on Kickstarter, a second Indiegogo campaign managed to reach its target in early 2016.

The Princess was bangin', though.

It was cheaper to learn another language than to memorize every move in this game.

Imagine this remade with newer technology today, heck, why not make it an actual controllable game?
If Cuphead can exist, then maybe a new Dragon's Lair game could be too.

I was a 12 y.o kid at that time, I could finish the game.
The cabinet had two screens. One on the top for the others to watch.
There was no one when I arrived at the cabinet and focused on the game I reached the dragon match and failed to win.
I turned myself back to leave and there was a huge crowd of people I disappointend.
But I felt like a star. LOL.

I can still remember pumping all my hard-earned quarters into this when it came out. What a trip watching it again.

I’m stuck trying to beat this game without the prompts telling you which way to go.

I love this and this game....I've played this game at the arcades in my youth. It's great to see all the deaths in this game, nice walkthrough 👍👍👍

I just got a chance to play this on free play in Asheville NC Pinball museum and even with unlimited credits it was incredibly difficult to understand let alone make any significant progress. super cool concept though and the graphics from the cabinet looked great even in 2022

Thanks. I had forgotten just how annoying it was to play this game. It is almost like it hates you.
Frustrating punishment.

"You must be Dirk...Dirk the Daring!" - funniest quote ever for a video game, imho. LOL

This was a quarter-eating impossible arcade game that was so hard it really lost its appeal. It could have been so much better... The few times I tried it I died instantly every attempt. No point in continuing, because it'd cost $100 in quarters and that's no fun.

What I find frustrating is that death scenes are sudden, and instead of letting you try again just skip the room Though in the later half of the video is appears to be happening? And some rooms repeat for no reason.

You know, if Dragon's Lair was a live action movie, I would want Ryan Reynolds to play the knight.
