Jerry is a brown mouse. While he constantly tries to escape from the traps set by Tom, Tom is constantly after him, and most of them backfire and harm Jerry more than Jerry. Tom very rarely sets out to eat Jerry, but only to harm or compete with him, going to great lengths to strategically taunt Jerry (even as revenge), rather than the predatory stereotype of the cat and mouse pairing. However, while Tom is shown to get along well with Jerry, in reality they are secretly far from bonding with each other in terms of friendship due to a mutual sense of unpleasant experience. Most of the time the story will start with her having nothing against Jerry and will chase him away for fear of being abused at the hands of her owner if he doesn't do her job as a cat.
