85 years ago, Spanish immigrant Don Prudencio Unanue Ortiz and his Puerto Rican wife Carolina Casal came to the New York City borough of Manhattan and founded Goya Foods after Prudencio purchased the “Goya” name from a Moroccan sardine company.

I wonder why they sold the brand to Prudencio for such little money? Was their some sort of profit sharing going on or other incentives involved to sell for only $1? Also, does anyone know what race/ethnicity the people who originally sold them the Goya company were? Spanish? Moroccans? Etc? I’m assuming Spanish but obviously I’m not sure...
