Physical Theatre Introduction - Full Lesson

A lesson (easily adapted into a full scheme of work) on basic Physical Theatre in Drama.

Warm ups:

Stop go / jump clap

Groups of…(number)
Students walk around (or balance) the space
Teacher calls ‘groups of…’ they need to sit down in those groups with only eye contact to communicate.

Physical Connections
Again students walk around the space, this time when teacher calls two body parts eg hand to foot, students must make that safe physical connection with the person nearest to them. It’s important to get the calm, focussed attitude here and promote safety. Both emotionally and physically.

Main lesson:
Creating objects in groups with your bodies and safe physical connections.
Eg:
Lawn mower
Vacuum
Coffee machine

Creating larger working objects with movement and sound effects.
Sink
Toilet
Shower

Final Task:
Create a full car/aeroplane/boat and have actors use your creation.
Or
Create a house that doesn’t want be sold. Let two characters explore the house

2. Potential buyer
