Putin speaks out on 'North Korean troops in Russia'

President Vladimir Putin on Thursday did not deny US claims that North Korea had sent troops to Russia but said that it was up to Moscow how to run its mutual defence clause with Pyongyang and accused the West of escalating the Ukraine war.

The United States said that it had seen evidence that North Korea has sent 3,000 troops to Russia for possible deployment in Ukraine, a move that could mark a significant escalation of the Ukraine war.

Asked by a reporter about satellite imagery showing North Korean troop movements, Putin said: "Images are a serious thing. If there are images, then they reflect something."

For weeks, the media has been writing that "there are probably North Korean troops in Russia." "But the intelligence did not establish this for sure...". Putin's answer was expected: "No, no, there are no troops." "And we believe that there is." "No, no, this is slander..."
But today the chessboard of this game has been turned over. Putin said: "Yes, there are troops, we have agreed on this with North Korea. And we will decide how they will be used, and we are not interested in your opinion on this matter."
