Показать описание
One of the most anticipated astronomical occurrences is the Betelgeuse supernova, which is a crimson supergiant star nearing the end of its existence on Orion's famous shoulder. Betelgeuse is one of the brightest stars in the night sky, yet it began to mysteriously decrease in late 2019. Because the fading was so apparent, it could be seen with unassisted eyes. For several months, the star's brilliance faded, and observers worried if Betelgeuse had reached the end of its life. Despite the fact that the red giant star's brightness returned to..

I gave a small lecture at our club about Betelgeuse and did major research about This red giant. This story is a bit repeating the facts stated about the dimming. It's an irregular dimming star. So fluctuations are it's thing. Latest, better, measurements of the distance from us to Betelgeuse has given a better figure. And it's closer than thought for a long time. Distance is now believed/measured around 613 light-years. Problem of measuring this star's distance is the variability of the luminance.

I really hope this happens in my lifetime. I check the Betelgeuse live stream every day.

It’s already happened. A long time ago.

Wikipedia has it listed at 548 light years away. Hard to believe the exact distance can’t be determined. The chart shown in this video lists it as 700 light years away.

Even at the speed of light, if betelgeuse explodes it would take over 642 years for the earth to be effected .

I’m watching this in June 2023, in case people didn’t know, new research indicates that Betelgeuse will explode around December or early 2024

So this is a red supergiant star but only 1.5 times the size of our sun? I don't think so. Lol

Our science has not matured enough to intelligently guess the behavior of the known star systems. Therefore, we do not possess sufficient to data make such critical pronouncement.

it is watchable right now and is red in colour

I really hope I be able to see it 2022

It already exploded like 400 years ago. It's still going to take another 200 years before the light reaches 🌎 Earth.

noone is certain of anything regarding betelgeuse... however a supernova is not EXPECTED for around 100, 000 years., but its very very far away from us... doomsday stuff about betelgeuse is ridiculous.... it takes 600 years for light to travel from betelgeuse, .... that tells you how far away it is.

I think it already happened millions of years ago

625 light years away is more accurate distance
