Came back to this piece 8 years after first hearing it and becoming infatuated with it. It sounds every bit as good today! Empty Hands is deserving of critical praise, in my opinion. Beautifully written, it has just about everything I want in a piece of music; it soothes the soul, whilst simultaneously reflecting an assortment of other emotions; tension, longing, striving. That’s leaving aside (the still young) Mateus’ playing skills! I've often wished for an expanded, professionally recorded version of the song, but I know that sometimes the vibe of the original demo is never equaled, let alone surpassed...
