I'm in such a whimsical, fantasy romance mood right now! I just finished 'Half a Soul" and it's left such a hole in my heart, so I really want to read this now! I trust your recommendations almost more than anyone.

I bought this earlier in the year, just haven’t read it yet.
My current read is Redshirts, I only started a couple of days ago and that was one I bought purely on your recommendation. I’m a huge Star Trek fan and I’d never heard of it, but after listening to you talk about it, the idea of it really appealed to me. I went and bought it straight away, but only just decided to pick it up. What I’ve read so far is just so good! I can’t wait to pick it back up.
Thank you for unbiased and enthusiastic recommendations 😊

I'm meant to read a romantasy book for a fantasy bingo challenge and I didn't think I'd find one that I'd like but you've sold me on Faebound. I might be able to complete this challenge now

I have been struggling with romantasy as well, mainly because an increasing amount of fantasy is becoming romantasy. Faebound sounds good thank you for prompt to pick it up.

One I did enjoy excessively is the Emily Wilde Map of the Otherlands series. Appealing multidimensional characters, believable world building, well paced adventuring that balanced tension with time to absorb stuff.

Sad note:

I'm still traumatized at age 45 by the description of the protagonist in His Dark Materials being cut off from her spirit animal, something I read decades ago.

Just put a hold on it at my library. I've been trying with Sarah J. Maas because my wife loves the Throne of Glass, but I've been feeling similar ways to you. Love the enthusiasm, and I need a good, cozy, distacting fantasy right now.

I would like to add another queer Romantasy. It's by Ben Alderson and it's a series that was originally self published and now it got picked up by Angry Robot. The series is called the Realm of Fae, and the first book is A Betrayal of Storms and I fell in love within two chapters and already preordered the second book which comes out this month.

The romantasy genre can definitely be a rollercoaster :)) I'm putting this one on my TBR for sure! I've DNF-ed a lot of romantasy books because of the bad writing/poor world building (I'm looking at you ACOTAR & Fourth Wing...), but there are good ones out there. You just have to dig a little to find the gems :) Looking forward to a romantasy video in the future ;)

Yay! I remember recommending this one when you previously had a call out for good romantasy

Can't actually watch the video right now but I'll be back lol. Love your outfit too today ❤

I just looked this up at my library, and it looks like it is a trilogy if you didn't already know! ❤ but it's still being written. The 2nd one is set to come out in February 2025.

Paused at 30 sec. That book for me was Half-a-Soul, by Olivia Atwater.
(Edit: gots no spice on Half-a-soul. My ace brain doesn't want spice...)

I'm so excited to read this now. You mentioned this book before, and I put it on my list, but I just bumped it up to this month cause I'm too excited. I remember when I discovered queer romantasy, it was life changing. I'm pan and really can enjoy reading about any type of relationship, but I definitely prefer anything queer. I'm sorry, but generally speaking, straight people are boring... Most of the time it's the same stories, with the same types of men, and the same toxic traits and I can't... I just recently read ACOTAR cause I had already promised someone right before I saw your video, and it's exactly what I knew it would be. You're lucky you DNF'ed it, I finished it (have to, it's a thing about me) and now it makes me crazy to hear people talk about how romantic it is. Not only is it just incredibly shallow, but the woman is assaulted in the end by one of the men, and I can tell by the way it ends that she's definitely gonna end up with that guy in the next book... He's predatory and so is the other guy. It just brought up all the memories I have of feeling unsafe around men and made my blood boil. You're right, where's the fantasy in that? How anyone can enjoy that is beyond me. I think it's women who feel they don't deserve any better and that's just sad to me. I can't wait to read Faebound and recommend it to those who think ACOTAR is good. I can feel I'm gonna love it. Thank you for the recommendation!

People say they hate a genre, and most of the time, that's because they only stick to the "popular" ones -- ones that have good marketing campaigns that slap you ini the face with the book at every turn. Few people take a chance on reading an unknown author (sometimes even when they're gifted a book), because it doesn't gain them any clout to say they read a book no one's heard of. There are a lot of really good books out there that never get read, because their authors don't have big publicity firms and lots of money to toss at publicity, or who are indie authors, and almost no one takes a chance on an indie author. Meanwhile, there are some great books that get overlooked because many people are actually prejudiced when it comes to reading habits, and don't even realize it.
