Why North Is South in Mongolia, Sometimes?

Mongolian language is already very special and complex, but if you want to see something really confusing, try asking people for directions in Ulaanbaatar 😅❤️🇲🇳
At the beginning I thought I was crazy, because I always understood wrong, and also, different people would give me very different directions.
Until someone explained to me this thing about Universal directions vs Mongolian language position.

The reason for this complication in the language related with directions is100% related to their nomadic lifestyle and the way they build their Gers (tents or nomadic houses)

In bengali, we call south as "dakkhin" because in our language "dakkhin" means right side. And by facing at the sun, our right side locates south and the left locates north. As we call right side as "dakkhin" so thats how it was named

In Sri lanka both right and south is the same word dakuna. But no one gives directions here as north, south since we have no idea which direction we are heading to but rather as left, right, in front of, behind
