I had the privilege of meeting this man at a lecture he did at Norfolk state university in Virginia in 1994. He was blind at the time and he spoke for 2 and a half hours with no notes. He was the most brilliant man I ever met. It was an honor meeting him. And after the lecture I thanked him for his lecture and he was so gracious. Rip to dr Clarke.

Dr Clarke helped me to understand that “History is a clock that tells a people their political time of day”

Every time I listen to Dr Clark’s lectures, it makes me regret not being wise enough back then to have met him or sit at his feet. We as a people don’t cherish our cultural treasures. This man is and was a goldmine that never taps out.

There be days when I sit outside, the wind is blowing, and I have to take this all in and let it marinate. This man gave his entire life to finding the keys to unlocking hidden black history, hidden African history. And it's been 20 long years and I have to say this man done his job.

Master teacher.
Our history does not start in 1619 or 1492. These perspectives are key for liberation.

Such a respected teacher! I had the honor of inviting him to my mother's home for breakfast during a student conference in Indianapolis. We also featured Haki Madhubuti from Third World Press in Chicago at this IUPUI Black Student Union conference in1979. Dr. Clarke was a wonderful lecturer and gracious houseguest. I actually picked up Haki from the airport..I was just a kid but I was in awe of these important Black men and still am. We also had Mahmoud El - Kati during this weekend gathering. It was a memorable moment in my student organizing days. John Henrik Clarke was a towering intellect

Thank you for this segment. I learned of this gentleman by listening to Dr. Greg Carr and Professor Karen Hunter on Saturdays. This is an amazing segment, I shared it with my sister and niece.
