Rdr2; John avenged the gang killed Micah, kind of made peace with Dutch, got the Blackwater money, whole family is alive, has a ranch, pretty much got away clean, The surviving good gang members all had good endings too, The surviving bad gang members really had no interest in going after John so he was safe. And in the end he wasn’t living like an outlaw anymore.

Everyone got a happily ever after the end there was zero need to extend that aside for the sake of “actions have consequences” being one of the themes of this franchise.

If rdr1 was never made and rdr2 was made first this is more or less what most if not everybody would be saying about the newly announced RDR1 game following John

“sure let’s just ignore Arthur sacrifice to save John and his family“
“John has no story to tell plus he got a happy ending just leave him alone“
“1911 is when they’re setting this game.. The west is over by 1911 shouldn’t even touch the 1910s anyway”
“this is entirely forced and doesn’t make any sense with red dead redemption two this is so uncalled for“

“unnecessary cash grab“
“ to be honest I found John kind of mid, he’s not engaging enough to justify a whole game about him”

But notice how nobody says these things especially first time RDR 1 players after playing red dead redemption two.. this is exactly why Jack’s game should not be Shunned or ignored like it’s such an impossiblebility that also makes zero sense.

ending of rdr1 when Jack kills Edger.

Jack (most likely) disobeys his mother‘s wishes and goes after Edgar, seemingly immediately after she died, he shot the retired Director of the FBI of the West Elizabeth region, canonically speaking he let three people live who he asked about finding Edgar. Edgar was beloved by the law-enforcement federal government (as stated in the rdr1) there’s no way there would let that case go unsolved the mentality of “once a cop always a cop”. Even if they didn’t like Edgar considering the rank he was and how loved he was by the federal government and the fact that if you let criminals think they can kill retired officers you’re just emboldening more crime to happen if you just let that slide.. The sequel writes itself in my opinion.

Compare both endings of rdr1 in rdr2 you tell me which one sounds more like a definitive ending for a whole storyline and which one sounds more reasonably open ended to justify a sequel.

It's depressing that he ruined his life, because he didn't listen to his father and killed Ross. Same as John did with not listening to Arthur words. I like to think that Jack got caught but was recruited to army cause of his abilities and after war got job as Marshal or in Bureau of Investigation. After completing game in 100% Jack gets Bureau Uniform and after doing some challenge he gets US Marshal Uniform so I think this story is possible.
