Having euro matches in the Olympiastadion in Munich would be simply magical. Was there at the european athletics championship, it has this special aura which not many stadiums have anymore.

For most stadiums I think they choose due to not the capacity of it but becuz of the infrastructure around the stadium which is important

Surprised that Hannover wasn't chosen considering that it hosted the 2006 World Cup. Can anyone explain why it wasn't chosen?

To be fair tho, you cannot compare the Bundesliga capacity to the capacity in the Euro's. All stadiums choosen for the tournament have a reduced capacity due to safety measures. Some examples:
Dortmund: 62K instead of 81K
Allianz-Arena: 66K instead of 75K
Berlin: 71K instead of 76K (despite it's a seats-only-arena)

Tbh im still shook they didnt pick the arena in Hannover. Infrastructure is great, plenty of hotels, great location within the country (crossroads of A2 and A7, most trains pass through etc). Yes the stadium isnt all that modern but its definitely good enough and holds 45, 000 people for international games.

Hannover is a big City with a 50k Stadium. Could have been a decent choice.

Gladbach is my favorite team but the city does lack infrastructure. You can only get to the stadium by bus and that’s sadly not enough to host a european championship.
Also there are other also amazing stadiums in the same area with better infrastructure around

Well, the Olimpiastadion in Munich hosted 2 AC/DC concerts last month so I guess they are happy with that 😅😂

They should have picked either Nürnberg or something like Bremen or Hannover instead of Gelsenkirchen. Picking Gelsenkirchen was just random, ugly City and now you have four stadiums basically at the same place. It would have been much better to even out the different regions of Germany a bit more.

During euro 2012 in Poland and Ukraine the second largest stadium in Poland - Silesian Stadium with over 50 000 seats did not host any game. Instead of modernazing one of the most iconic stadiums in the country authorities decided to built 4 new stadiums in Warsaw, Wroclaw, Poznan and Gdansk. Silesian Stadium although it has running tracks wasn't choosen due to politician decisions. Also Silesian Stadium is located in Chorzów - a city with a 100 000 inhabitants and only authorities of Chorzów aplicated for hosting matches during euro 2012. Authorities of neighbouring cities like Katowice, Zabrze, Sosnowiec, Gliwice or Bytom didn't help authorities of Chorzów although mentioned cities and over 20 cities and boroughs forms Silesian Urban Area with population over 2 300 000 people

Kaiserslautern didnt want to host anymore, they took their application back in 2017 like Karlsruhe and Freiburg. Mainly because of the financial risk for the club and city at that time. I mean they were rlly close to being relegated to the 3rd division, which literally happened the next season after.

I think they should have picked nürnberg. Beatiful stadium and arleady went there ill agree with that running track but as they said its getting rebuilds 60 k capacity no running track 5k away fans stand
