We noticed these 3 differences between Sydney trains and Melbourne trains. Every state in Australia has its own State Government hence its own public transportation.

Sydney trains have a guard who controls the doors and ensures the safe travel of passengers. Melbourne got rid of guards in the early 90s to save costs.

Lol the comengs in Melbourne require you to pull the door open with pure force 😂

The reason you have open the door in Melbourne is to keep the heat in

Sydney's trains are superior while I still prefer Melbourne's public transport overall

So in Melbourne they use to have a double decker train which is called the 4D build by goniana in 1991 before they enter service 1992 until they had major issue with the brakes until it was withdrawn in 2006. So thats why all of the Melbourne railways only runs signal decker right now, In Sydney we have a industrial strike due to the new Intercity train.

A lot of places with colder climates in Europe have button operated doors for the purpose of keeping the train cabin warm. That’s also the case on many regional trains in the UK.

To be fair, doors opening automatically are not nescessarily a good thing, like opening automaically might save say a second but it also unnescessarily lets all the cold/hot into the train.

Istg in the older sets the door gets stuck in Melbourne, there are times where I stood there for a few mins trying to pry the door open with brute force

Idk why you listed manually operated doors as a bad thing, it gets cold as hell in Melbourne and having manually operated doors means the trains are nice and toasty during winter.

Sydney’s train may be more accomodating, but Melbourne’s train company made the Dumb Ways To Die song

I've experienced both trains, and personally I prefer melbourne trains. The novelty of walking up the little staircase gets pretty old pretty fast. Melbourne trains are a far more simple design, and I find it's easier to just walk on and either immediately find a seat or take a grab handle

Another interesting fact is that the 2 systems are on different track widths with Melbourne on broad gauge and sydney on standard gauge
