The answer I got for t = log5 / 12log1.00417 = 32.23

Not sure how you got 32.178 ??

After going through a rabbit hole, I’m sure there is something wrong here.

Your definition of a^x = x*log(a) has to be wrong. Plug numbers in and find it doesn’t compute.

However I found the definition a^x = e^(x*Ln(a)) DOES compute.

So does log(a^x) = x*log(a)…

Your “shortcut” here is very close (off by about 1/1000), but still technically wrong. I guess it works in personal finance if you’re not a millionaire, but it’s still wrong. Probably should have just used the “approx” ~ symbol instead of = and conveyed that it’s an approximation.

Don’t want anyone failing a text over this.
