i see that you’ve been told already that he gets a girlfriend in the end, but what’s even better is that after he handles that he can’t be with mariel he actually focuses on himself for like 70 percent of the comic. it’s pretty nice he just feels out the girlfriend thing well in the end

I actually enjoyed the series. Yeah, man is not confident at all, but he actually develops some semblance of a spine after understand that he can actually be an attractive person. It is teenage drama, it’s gonna be somewhat cringe, so yeah, he is cringeworthy reasonably.

I'm glad most of the comments agree that it becomes a lot better. The character development from everyone was heartwarming to watch and I was genuinely proud of them all. Love the portrayals of wholesome platonic relationships AND the confusion and cringe of teen love.

Personally I really liked it. I think the first... season(???), was the weakest and didn't care for it much. It wasn't until some later story lines that I began to enjoy the stort and main character after he develops some.

I laughed so hard at the premise of this WebToon when I first saw the ad. Like, it’s one thing to lose your crush to another guy but to your own sister? Damn, that’s a new one.

As someone who has read this webtoon in it's entirety, I actually really enjoyed how it played out. You have to keep in mind that the story is set in highschool where everyone is awkward, and it is a coming of age story. The webtoon focuses on a lot of internal struggles and the four main character's problems. Even Micaela, who isn't even a main character according to the author (The Four of Them being Johnny, Gaby, Mariel and Martina), she turns out as a better person as well. It's honestly a really beautiful story, even though it is DEFINITELY very long and it takes, I'd say, around 15-20 chapters for the story to really get up off of it's feet, I think that I could honestly recommend just about anyone this story. It's very relatable in lots of ways and it made me feel for the characters quite a bit, because eventually they felt so real as opposed to how they felt pretty 2D at the start of the story. I mean who can forget Johnny's outburst in front of the whole class about needing a girlfriend, lmao. But it goes in directions you wouldn't expect it to and showcases a lot of REAL issues and feelings. Also I'm sure you know this but the story isn't even really about Micaela and Mariel's relationship, it's just a sort of kickstart for the plot and Johnny's character development. Although it IS definitely a huge plot device for Mariel's eventual character development down the line.

This isn't me ragging on you for your opinion, because everyone is entitled, and obviously once again it's a long read with very long chapters so I don't expect you to suddenly turn around and read the entire thing. The point I wanted to make though is that without really reading it and seeing more of the story and characters, I think comparing this to something like Boyfriends is absolutely criminal, lmao. I mean everyone knows Boyfriends is dogshit but The Four of Them is a genuine story that isn't stereotypical or weird or fetishizing like that pile of trash is.

That's all though, I thought your commentary for this was funny though lmaoo especially the bits about Micaela.

This was one of the first webtoons i read and i kept up with it till it finished for around two years. i actually cried at the finale, i really loved the comic. the characters actually feel realistic at least to me

I like that Webtoon though. It's slow, but it's mostly about character development. The change is slow but it helps to make it more natural. It's honestly pretty good written.
Jonathan is pretty annoying in the first season, but he gets less self centered and more supportive as the series goes on. Him being kinda of a annoying incel makes his journey into a normal guy way more impactful. It's like watching one of these massive weight loss, where you can't even recognize the person, but it's still them.
But yeah, the first season is one of the weakest and Michaela ends up with the least development, one of the reasons why I think she is kinda annoying.
