The critics destroyed this film when it debuted, but thankfully, critics don't really get to decide what is great and what isn't. This wonderful little film became a hit because it has a wonderful story, wonderful actors and wonderful music written by Adam Schlesinger. Sadly, Adam is no longer with us, but his music and contributions will stay with us forever!

I love the emotional twist of Cora's character. They made her look like a stupid teenager who just wants to be the next Shakira all throughout the film, and now she's suddenly grown. She's quiet, calm, she lets herself be herself in front of everyone because she knows she can't talk about love and wear that mask at the same time. And a girl who realizes that and is brave enough to allow herself to change without fighting it and to allow her fans to grow up with her (notice the manager's daughter going through that moment right there?) Can't be stupid no matter how much you try to make her look like it. And I know it's just a Rom-Com but that's one hell of a character work. As a writer I'm really impressed, I actually learn from that.

As a musician myself (from Indonesia), this is probably one of the best examples that shows music doesn't always have to be too complicated, idealistic, & sophisticated to be really good, & nor have to become the typical commercial, mainstream, overused, monotone, & cheapened music industry standard either. This song just strikes the perfect balance between the two extremes. It's a really good, melodic, & heartwarming tunes (& not to mention good lyrics too!). It's very underrated though, sadly.

One of the best and most underrated rom-coms ever that even non-rom-com enthusiasts would enjoy, loved the script and acting. And the music in it is great, Adam nailed it, drawing from Wham!, Duran Duran, etc, for Hugh Grant to Britney Spears, Madonna, etc. for Haley Bennett.

Why didn't Haley Bennett become a huge movie star after this movie? This was her breakout role and she did great! She sings, acts and dances not to mention she's adorable. Fifteen years later, she should be pursued again by the industry. Critics sometimes don't get it. Many movie goers like rom coms!
