While I’ve never had one myself, I’m actually going through something similar right now.
There’s this one girl that I’ve known since elementary school, who I didn’t see again until high school, and we’ve pretty much been best friends ever since.
Except now it’s at a point where my family’s questioning if there could be something more between us and playing matchmaker with us now.
I don’t know if there is something more, but now I’m actually thinking about throwing the idea out there to her just to see what she says.

One time I confessed to my crush after many long years of trying, but she rejected me and called me a simp just for that, I had been broken to many times before, so I just let it through, now I barely show emotion and don't remember how to smile, when I try to smile for long periods of time it gets sore, to the point where I can't anymore, but with that comes change, I am now an artist, an animator, a cook, and voice impressionist hoping to open up a foodtruck or use these talents to my most, maybe even make an animated movie and a book, I also like to write, and without the heartbreak and hate, I wouldn't write my books and do the stuff im able to now, thank you Violet for shaping me to be the person I am today.

And once when I was walking into class one of the girls at the front called me hot, and that made me smile a bit, but then her friend said "but he's weird" and my smile disappeared, I made eye contact and saw the first girl's eyes change from neutral to big and dilated, like she knew what she did, I didn't know her much anyway, just that she was smart and a little spoiled being the daughter of our previous teacher.

There was another girl, Chloe, sometimes in class I'd see her staring at me, I knew that look, crush? Did she love me? I ignored it for the first week thinking I was just going crazy, then when I was talking to my "friend" about her, I said I was going to play the waiting game. But, the brat he was, ran to them, after we got in class, she was crying on the table, I was confused and a little sad, I got up to make sure she was ok but the other girls pushed me away (figuratively), now that "friend" is no longer in my group, idk what happened to him now, all I know is that he moved.
