I found tis out the hard way a long time ago. The fan would never cut off!! then I did the same thing you did and BAM!!! No more loud fan. You should have made this video like 2 years ago lol. cheers!

I'm still using this compaq, with XP. BUT IT IS getting hot and fan is on always on high now . yes it is cleaned well.

I have the exact Model Laptop.I have replaced the Thermal compound, replaced the Motherboard, and replaced the Video card.The Laptop still shuts down in a loop and the Video card is VERY hot. (thoughts bad video card? bad mb?)
