If you enjoy visiting spiritual places, then you are going to want to make time to see the Gates of Dawn in Vilnius. Not only is it one of the most visited shrines in the country, but it is also one of the most popular shrines in the world. Known for its painting of the Virgin Mary, the first mention known of the Gates of Dawn dates all the way back to the 16th century. The painting itself has been thought to have the power to work miracles since the 17th century. It is the only surviving gate from the walls that were built around Vilnius in the early 16th century.

A Visit to Old Town Is a Must
One of the largest surviving medieval towns in the world today, a visit to Old Town in Vilnius will not only take your breath away, but it will seem like you’ve been transported back into time. Many visitors find that they take the time to visit Pilies Street, filled with cafes and street markets, and they can never seem to peel themselves away again. There are gothic, baroque, renaissance, and neoclassical architectural styles all complimenting each other throughout Old Town for the architectural buff as well. It is part of the World Heritage List because of its importance to world history.

While in Vilnius, you’ll notice that there are many palaces that have been built. One of the best palaces to visit is Tyzenhaus Palace that was built in the 18th century. It is unique because the palace itself has fallen into disuse several times throughout the centuries, only to be rebuilt again. Because of this, you can see a variety of different architectural styles throughout the palace itself. From statues to bas-relief art, a visit to Tyzenhaus Palace is like taking a walk through 300 years of history. It is easy to access because there are several office spaces that have been carved out of the palace.
