It would have been useful to mention that the purpose for this is that you end up with a common denominator, though it may not be the least common denominator (LCD). It might not be obvious to everyone at first why you would do this is d/d and b/b both equal 1 anyway.

How could you prove.

Show that if a, b, c and d are integers, where! = 0, such that a | c and b | d, then ab | cd?
