Bison headbutts car in Yellowstone National Park

This large bison was standing still in the middle of the road, so cars stopped in both directions with plenty of room between them and the bison. Along comes another bison from the valley, up to the road, much closer to car. The larger bison then decides to walk over to the smaller (yet still large) bison. That's when this happened. Just think if he really put all his force into the ram. Luckily no one was hurt, not even the bison.

WARNING: Bison are actually so gentile, providing you don’t get too close, it’s easy To think you could walk up and pet one. WRONG!!! They ARE gentile giants, so long as you keep your distance. If you think otherwise, just remember this: even grizzly bears give bison a wide berth. If a grizzly won’t get close to them, neither should people.

You shouldn’t both pass the bison at the same time. Give the other car a little room so he can give the bison room. He felt crowded and took it out on the other car.

I was driving in Yellowstone when I ran into an entire herd of bison coming my way in the road. It was early - maybe one other car around and the bison figured they had the road to themselves. Scary, but they parted to get around my car, didn't bother it at all. What was notable was that the adult bison all put themselves between my car and their calves as they passed by. The bison in this clip has a calf with it. It seems to me the adult bison is making sure the car knows she/he will protect the calf, period.
