This video is to show the different motor noises made by Southeastern Class 465 Networker EMU's.
First is the original noise of the 465/2 and 465/9, in my opinion a much better noise! The motor is a GEC-Alsthom G352AY three-phase induction motors of 280 kW (380 hp)
Second is the noise of the 465/0 and 465/1 motor noise which is a Four Brush TIM970 three-phase induction motors of 280 kW (380 hp) which were remotored from 2009 - 2010. Rate/ comment/ subscribe!

0:13 the motor noise sounds like the Javelin motor sound. I love the first 465 motor sound

Nope, the motors in the 465/0 and 465/1 BREL units were NOT changed. They were Brush TIM970s and they still are Brush TIM970s.
The inverter and brake resistor blower units and their associated motors were removed, as the replacement brake resistors are now cooled by natural convection. The neat side skirts around the traction modules were removed to improve the airflow.

The traction motors, gearboxes and auxiliary power supplies are what was retained from the original components. The different sounds are down to the technology being used to drive the motors, in this case, IGBT instead of the previous GTO thyristors. (which remain on the 465/2 and 466s.

465/0 and 465/1 use Hitachi IGBT-VVVF derived from the Class 395. 465/2, 465/9, 466 and 365 use GEC Alsthom GTO-VVVF like what the London Underground Jubilee line 1996 stock has.

I like both sounds, but I like the Metro-Cammel 465 sound better than the Javworker sound. I thought the old BREL/ABB 465s sounded weird, but characterful, & while I do prefer the Hitachi sound, it is more common, so less special. I prefer the Smiley train sound though to all of them though.

charlie2268  The class 465/0 and class 465/1 motors were ORIGINALLY Brush TIM970s, but are now Hitachi traction motors.

That isn’t the TIM970, they were replaced by Hitachi. That’s what you hear.
