Welcome back to my channel guys. In today's video, I address HOW to LEGALLY FLY A DRONE

In 2019 the laws in Canada made it close to impossible to fly a drone legally without a license. In today's video, I'll be going over the 5 steps required to become a fully certified advanced drone operator in Canada in 2021.

My Socials

It is a bit of a process I won't downplay that, however, being a fully certified pilot gives you a lot of peace of mind on top of much more freedom to fly while still following the rules and regulations provided by Transport Canada.

Below are some of the links I used to study for my basic and advanced exams:

AIM DOC (This pretty much has all the info you need, its a huge document. I would also highly suggest using google and other resources for your studying in addition to using the AIM document)

Hope you guys found this video helpful!

If you just gonna fly a sub 250g or a 25kg drone... You do not need the advanced exam. The drone you have in this video... you only need your basic exam as it is more than 250g. If you are new to drones... this video could be a downer to you. But everything he says is true.
So here...
Sub 250g drones you do not need any exam. No need to register it
250g to 25 kg drones you need a basic exam + need to register it
25kg + you need advance exam + register

Keep in mind that Canada has a drone map where it shows where you can fly your drone and the map changes when you change drone sizes ( Weight) I also recommend that when flying ANY drones. That you look on the Canadian drone site for ALL the RULES.

Just so you know you can fly with a Rec License in the USA you need to register your drone and pass the TRUST exam 5 $ to register Trust is free but there is a fine line for part 107 if you make any money with your drone that is a commercial use and you need your part 107 certificate

Good video. thanks for posting. i lost my first drone without even knowing it had to be registered and I needed a license. I took the basic exam, passed and got another budget drone. It was challenging to find places to fly in Edmonton. Now I have a Mini 2 and so for I'm very happy. I'll get the advanced license eventually, but my drone footage will mostly revolve around bicycle tours and the Mini is ideal for that because of its size. Subscribed to your channel to keep updated.

Dude...not sure what you're using to film yourself when walking and talking but you need some image stabilization...I was getting super dizzy.

You don't need to do the basic first before doing the advance. You can just do the advance exam if you are confident enough

Nice video. Please note that all you say only applies to drones 250 g or more according to TC regulations. So if you have a Dji Mini 2 which is less than 250 g there is no need to register, no lic required, just fly safely. These ‘toy drones’ can be flown without registration. Just don’t do anything stupid and stay away from people. There are local restrictions though like here in GTA you cannot fly in a city park.

Being Canadian, this isnt even about safety. Its just a huge cash grab. I understand their are many irresponsible drone users, but this country has way too many rules. Sticking with my mini se.

I got mine in march too. I had some basic knowledge as I was a dock attendant with floatplanes for a couple years but still failed the exam a couple times. Even my commercial pilot friends found it very challenging when they took it.

Great video - I plan to get a drone just waiting for the newest one. Is it worth doing the advance test without having a drone yet.

Great video thanks for posting. A small point of interest you can go straight into the advanced RPAS without first getting your basic license if you should so wish. That being said I did start with my basic. only because i failed the advanced first.

pretty much very other activity governed by Transport Canada has a maximum speed allowed for things ... have you come across a speed limit for drone and RC controlled aircraft for Canada and or Ontario ...
