(1:11) Our crew had the chance to stop by the 2023 taps summer field day. Many of the TAPS- or Testing Ag Performance Solutions program participants were on hand to take in a day of live demos and hands-on learning. The day kicked off with educators, participants, sponsors and TAPS partners, meeting at the West Central Research Extension and Education Center in North Platte. The event featured educational competitions such as Agronomic Olympics and guest speakers.

(4:13) A congressional delegation made up of Nebraska’s elected representatives made their way to the University of Nebraska’s East Campus, to discuss the highly anticipated Farm Bill and get a closer look at research and innovations being developed right here in Nebraska that will help bolster agriculture worldwide. Vice Chancellor of UNL’s Institute of Agriculture and Natural Resources was on hand to explain how research at UNL is tied into the upcoming Farm Bill.

(6:12) In the Panhandle of Nebraska, A native insect is causing damage during the growing season in wheat. Wheat Stem Sawfly is widespread for wheat growers in the Panhandle of Nebraska and beyond. A team at the High Plains Ag Lab near Sidney continues to research the pest, with hopes of finding some relief in the future.

(10:00) This week we are focusing in on the cattle side of things. UNL Livestock Marketing and Risk Management Economist Elliott Dennis joined us earlier in the week. It has been a bullish market for both live and feeder cattle as they remain at near all-time highs. Here's my conversation with Elliott.

(20:18) Irrigation season started early and has been often this growing season. There are a few tips when it comes to irrigation season that we wanted to share with you. This week we were joined in studio by Nebraska Extension's Steve Melvin to get some of his thoughts and suggestions.
