The place of His birth is known as Sri Krishna Janmasthana or Birthplace of lord krishna. Mathura is the birth place of lord Krishna. It is situated on the bank of the river Yamuna. Mathura is also knows as Brij Bhoomi - The land where Shri Krishna was born and spent his youth. The main pilgrim center in Mathura is the Shri Krishna Janmabhoomi temple.

According to the Bhagavatgita Purana , Krishna is termed as Svyam Bhagawan since he was the purna-avatara or full incarnation of the supreme god Vishnu.Krishna is often described and portrayed as an infant or young boy playing a flute as in the Bhagavata Purana,or as a youthful prince giving direction and guidance as in the Bhagawad Gita.
