Pokemon: Fixing Johto's Biggest Problem

The Johto (Gold, Silver, Crystal, Heartgold and SoulSilver) games have been the most hotly debated games as of recent across the Pokemon fandom as of late. I can admit that even though I really enjoy these games, they do have one big glaring problem, and this is my attempt to fix said problem, using Heartgold and Soulsilver as our base.

The other main problem: LEVEL CURVE. Like seriously, they dropped the ball after the Radio Tower. Give the Pokemon on Routes 44-46 a LITTLE boost, come on! Make grinding a more realistic endeavor

My main issues were the lack of trainers on land and the EXTREMELY low level of wild pokemons, comparing to Kanto at least

As much as I love HGSS, the decision to keep gym leader teams almost the EXACT SAME was beyond baffling considering all of the new mons introduced since gen 2. Great job!

Pretty neat adjustments overall! I think my only concern was the replacement of Piloswine as Pryce's ace. I just feel like Pryce and the entire Swinub line is just inseparable, especially because of the anime, the manga, etc.

Honestly I feel like Falkner should get a Murkrow as his new ace instead of Pidgeotto. It only has 405 BST which would make it the weakest ace of any Gym Leader, it's a Johto Pokemon and it would introduce the 'new' Dark type to the newer players when they realise their Psychic type attacks don't do a thing. Also he has a Honchkrow in the rematch in regular HGSS so that's even more reason to do so.

Honestly I always feel like it makes so much more sense to have the ghost type gym leader be first, give that initial idea that normal attacks dont always work, but given the abundance of other types, mareep, whooper, your starter it isnt uneven match. Then in the city with the two huge towers have the flying type leader, given that there is only one new ghost type pokemon in this gen it makes a good gym 1 ace and theres many flying types, murkrow, natu/xatu, skarmory, noctowl etc.

I don't agree with the Arboks even though I understand your reasoning. If this was a gen with fairy types I might have agreed. Edit: how about giving lance a mon from a different region to represent how he is a champion who has traveled the world? Like give him an Agron or someone else to counter ice types?

What’s with this hardon for Arbok? 😅 Can just about excuse it for Clair but replacing Lance’s charizard for one full on makes the team both weaker and less dragon-ey. Everything else is decent call tho.

Dude I'm literally replaying through crystal version right now after playing heartgold and never realized you could choose which gym leader you wanted a fight I always went along with what the story wanted me to do and I always end up fighting Pryce 1st Then Jasmine and then the other guy

Bugsy's gym has you ride on spinaraks
Yet bugsy does not have a spinarak? that just felt like a waste. personally i'd swap venonat with spinarak/ariados.

I believe we can check number of badge before fight so it's possible to make 3 scenario for all Chuck, Pryce and Jasmine so still be free order but the level can be scaled. Like if Chuck was last he will have 4 mons including Heracross and if Pryce 1st he only have Sneasel, Dewgong and Piloswine.

And addition to Whitney i think Snubull will make the fight harder since intimidate will make Milktank bulkier.

The levels make no sense. I gotta spend hours grinding to keep up on levels with gyms (mostly gyms 4 to 8) yet regular trainers be level 16 even tho they right beside mahogany. I wish I got HG instead of SS bc the whole Lugia thing is so annoying. Team rocket sucks. If Johto wasn’t so dumb with its levels I’d be nuzlocking this but i always quit bc I gotta grind so much
