I'm judging them by the content of their character.

Didn't the Mayor tell residents to leave their cars unlocked so the windows wouldn't get broken by thieves?

Folks - Oakland is the epicenter of crime in the entire bay area - I know it seems silly but donating to recall Sheng Thao and Pamela Price helps the entire region.

I can’t believe people still leave their cars & houses unlocked in this day & age, no matter where you live

I don't care where you live in CA, nothing is safe anymore. Everywhere is a crime of opportunity. As for me, I'm always locked and loaded!

"If we can remove the opportunity we can remove the crime" How about you remove the criminal so they don't find a new crime? He sounds like he works for Oakland where criminals are celebrated by the police and government

At our home in the East Bay, we don't use garage-door openers. However, the home will be defended and the coroner will be contacted, if necessary.

I felt very violated and it wasn't my house.

The police will never find them or bother searching. But don't you dare defend yourself because they will FIND and charge you.

So instead of scolding the thief’s and tell them they’re lucky a homeowner didn’t have a gun…we tell the homeowners to do a better job, and blame the victim? Sounds about right, California is fucked

The only downside of Moraga (and Orinda, Lafayette, Walnut Creek), for those who can afford to live there, is the proximity to black criminals in Oakland/Berkeley/Richmond (and now Antioch/Concord), who have finally figured out how to drive there. This is why we can't have nice places. PoV: You live in Moraga, look out your window, and see the likes of those people at 0:25. Even a liberal would realize "oh sheet".
I guess the media used the term "thieves" because they couldn't tell if some of them were over age 19 - otherwise it would have been the codeword "teens".

Oh they abandoned in East Oakland.
Pfft. Color me shocked.

The real takeaway is we need stricter laws and severe punishments—no matter what their age—as these burglars are becoming more brazen

You all keep releasing criminals and they just keep getting better at it— and more organized! It was this kind of light touch that enabled the mafia to become powerful, and it took decades to repair the damage.

After visual contact, how can the police let these guys escape? There's not that many exits from Moraga, esp. from the Larch neighborhood.

* Never leave garage door opener in car if parked outside
* double, triple check the car door is lock before leaving the car
* double bolt garage door, removed emergency release cord
* double, triple blot garage door into the house
* have house alarm on at all times
* many cameras around the house

think we covered everything .... sad state of affairs

This doesn’t just happen in your driveway. Any place your car is parked, your home address is printed on your registration, they can take the opener, go to a home & rob it before you’re even done shopping at Target.
