Three TERRIBLE Mistakes the AP Top-25 Voters Made with the Big 12 | Big 12 Football

As anticipated, the Southeastern Conference (SEC) is leading the charge in the AP top 25 rankings for the preseason. It boasts a total of six teams featured, while the Big Ten and Pac-12 follow closely with five each. The Big 12 is represented by four teams, and the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) has three teams included in the poll.

Georgia is entering the 2023 season as the clear frontrunner to achieve a remarkable three-peat, a feat not accomplished since the 1930s. However, before Kirby Smart's team sets out on a schedule considered one of the nation's most favorable, key defensive positions need filling, and a quarterback competition must be resolved.

Over the nine years of the College Football Playoff era, only two teams that started as the AP preseason No. 1 have failed to reach the semifinals: Ohio State in 2015 and Alabama in the previous year. Among them, only Alabama in 2017 managed to secure the national championship after commencing the season as the AP poll's top-ranked team.

Two teams that were absent from the preseason rankings managed to make their mark in the College Football Playoff during the CFP era: Michigan in 2021 and TCU in the last season.

You are spot on Drake. Glad you got this new gig, hopefully it is a step up for you. I am not going to lie, even when you did locked on Baylor I would still keep up with your show, despite bleeding red and black. I think what is even more egregious that TTU being left off (we are use to that) is A&M being included. This team isnt just consistently over rated every single year preseaon, their constant under performance during the season despite top recruiting classes is never a focus of any media. We are just gas lit every single year, and I dont understand why everyone drinks the Koolade in the media.

I’m K-State fan. We are very used to pre-season rankings disrespecting us. It’s normal. They have “blue blood” and SEC biases every year.

Ranks should be carried over from the prior year. No matter what happened during the off season.

AP has been right 2 times in 20 years. I never consider it relevant until week 6-8. Unlike the coaches, the writers spend the first month or so voting to justify their original bias. And it often isn’t unconscious in any way. Just what it is. It why it carries no weight anymore

I’m a Texas Longhorns fan and I’m pretty happy where they’re at on the AP pole. I will say that they haven’t always lived up to their AP pole ranking, they’ve gotta prove it on the field. I’ve always wondered who votes 🗳️, sports writers? I think TCU should be higher than 17, almost made it to the national championship.

I don’t think byu will be a major factor this year but I think both byu and Utah will be major players in the big 12 conference most seasons

The issue is indifference amongst the sportswriters. There's great fan engagement in the fan bases of the surviving B12 teams, as good as fan engagement in the SEC, but the population density is much lower. Without "brands, " sportswriters overlook great B12 teams.
As for UCF, this is the first time they've had depth on offense and defense. The exception this year is at quarterback.
Back when UCF first moved up to FBS (D1), they played lots SEC, B10, and ACC teams, and they played those teams tough in close games, but they couldn't rely of back-ups to come in for exhausted players, which caused a lot of late game loses. SEC teams stopped scheduling UCF because of these close games. In fact, 1999 game against Georgia, the SEC officials stole the win away from UCF.

Hey Drake good buddy, ..Houston Cougars will be the surprise team, because the 40 new players… transfer portal, Junior college transfers, high school players, new coaches to name just a few upgrades… a lot of players are returning back to H-Town to play close to family….they have a very tough schedule though. Great show, Go Coogs!!! Also.. TDECU stadium on UofH home games are selling out (Totally - standing room only) quickly.

If college football goes down the path layed out by Trev the point where only forty or fifty teams get any media attention it will suck more than the biggest black hole in the entire universe. The quality of the football played in the NFL seems to go up every year but it becomes harder and harder to stay interested and be a fan. Would really hate to see the same happen with college football.

I’m actually shocked as a TCU fan we were at 17. I’d put us 22-25 if I had a ballot.

Tech and South Carolina should’ve made the Top 25 instead of Iowa and Ole Miss.
