Tina Hay struggled to grasp complex financial concepts while working toward her MBA at Harvard Business School. But she was able to see them clearly when she translated those concepts into sketches — on napkins. Hay eventually created a library of her info-graphic napkins on topics such as debt, retirement savings, student loans and taxes.

Her doodles inspired her Wall Street Journal and Amazon best-selling book, “Napkin Finance: Build Your Wealth in 30 Seconds or Less.” Hay also founded a multimedia company, Napkin Finance, which now offers free courses about personal finance and uses her signature napkin illustrations to help millions of readers navigate their own money challenges.

In February 2021, The Penny Hoarder’s senior writer Nicole Dow hosted a Facebook Live discussion with Hay about her book and simplifying complex financial topics.

Hay talked about:
-Why she started Napkin Finance.
-The importance of saving as early as possible.
-The benefits of diversifying investments.
-Long-term and short-term investment strategies.
-Rebuilding savings after an economic downturn, like the pandemic.
-How to save and plan for retirement.
