As European countries grapple with the question of how to handle migration policy across the continent, many countries are looking to Denmark, known for having some of the strictest immigration rules in the European Union. Today's Focus takes us to a district of the capital, Copenhagen, where the debate around immigration and integration has flared in recent times. This report by our colleagues at France 2 and FRANCE 24's Jack Colmer Gale.

Denmark is making safety of their citizens the number one issue in immigration policies. Unlike other EU countries.

Good for Denmark. One of the rare intelligent countries with the right approach towards immigrants

Denmark has a small population of about five million people. If they don't control the number of people coming into their country, they are going to be a minority someday. Self-preservation is very important.

Cut all benefits. They will not stay. They are freeloaders...

As a Turk, there are nearly 10 million illegals, immigrants and refugees in my country. The economic crises that occurred in 10 years, cultural differences, increasing unemployment, and the increase in the crime rate are due to the immigration policy. Every nation needs to protect itself, so Denmark is on the right track.

This is what we should be doing in the UK.

People seem shocked that a country is acting in its interests. That people are shocked, is shocking. It makes perfect sense.

It’s not an anti-immigrant policy, it’s a pro-immigrants who will integrate well policy. That’s a fair thing for the host nation to expect of the people it has offered to take in.

This is a very one-sided video report.
It started about 20 years ago, with gang violence in the so-called “ghettos”. Many things have been tried, but the gang violence and killings just spread. It could be felt over most of the country. Three biggest cities had big problems. Not even the fire brigade could get in the ghettos without heavy police protection. Then the parliament made a law, where it was possible to demolish these ghettos and spread the inhabitants. It seems to work, so far. Less violence and murders. I am not proud of this measure, but something had to be done.
Yes, you have to speak Danish here in Denmark (surprise), bur the education is free.
No, it doesn't have to be perfect. 14 days ago I was to an examination on the hospital, the doctor was an Iranian woman, she did not speak perfectly Danish, but could explain herself in Danish and understand what I said. Ii really can't be a surprise that you have to speak the language.

The main problem is that a large portion of immigrants don't want to be part of the danish society, they want all the good things without changing anything, sadly they need to put more effort than for example an Italian migrating to Denmark but must be done. I was living in Sweden before coming to Denmark and multiculturalism doesn't work at all. Denmark is in the right here, if the measure are heavy its because of the cause. As someone else said in the comments they tried a lot of stuff before and that is why they are recurring to this and its working.

Spot on. People should at least attempt to integrate, learn the language, respect the culture of their host nation. IMO. The U.K. would do well to get people wishing to stay to pass a test and commit to learning the language.

Danes simply don't want an Annecy within their borders. Well done Denmark!

We all need to do this. Oil and water.

My hat down to Denmark. We should all follow their example. The safety of your own people should come first. Good luck and God be with you Denmark

Anybody that thinks ill of these policies should stay in the country they're in. I've never heard of more sensible policy in my life and I'm not even Danish

How could Denmark refuse to take in those lovely peace loving Muslims. They are an asset to any society. Just ask the French.

I don't think it is anti immigrant. Its open with caveats. There has to be assimilation because having pockets of immigrants does lead to closed off communities that dont have to learn the language or the culture. That leads to tention. These caveats are the same for lets say an American that wanted to immigrate. Its not just immigrants from the middle east that need to meet these requirements. Although, I do disagree with needing to speak perfect in the language. Its easier to learn a language in a country.

We bet Mo-Ham will not answer the question as to why the Gulf States don't want migrants in their Countries, even fellow Muslims are given the cold shoulder.

Can't imagine why that would be.
