When Technical Sergeant Matt Stevens, Air Force Special Warfare, arrived at Joe’s Vermont farm for Spartan Games, he wasn’t sure what to expect. Lucky for him, being prepared for the unexpected is his specialty. TSgt Steven’s training as a SERE Specialist (survival, evasion, resistance and escape) has given him the tools to take on any obstacle, push past his limits and exceed every standard. To finish Spartan Games, he’ll need to do all three.
DAY ONE EVENTS:
- Spartan Cross: A new Spartan obstacle course event featuring 5k of running and 54 obstacles
- XTERRA Open Water Swim: 45-minute open water swim on a 200m loop in near freezing water
- Spartan Highland Games: Three events in one — single-elimination tug-of-war, Spartan Stones and Keiser Sled Challenge

Disclaimer: The Spartan Games were a closed competition and all participating Athletes were by invite only. Spartan staff and personnel were limited to those individuals necessary to produce and operate the event. Prior to arriving at the event location, all individuals on-site and present for the competition (including all Athletes and Spartan staff) were required to submit two (2) negative COVID-19 test results: one (1) PCR test within seven days prior to arrival, and one (1) Rapid test within 12 hours prior to arrival. No spectators or other third-parties were allowed on-site during the competition, and no re-entry was permitted.
