I know a young doctor who's going through pediatric neuropsychiatry residency. She's the definition of an upward life journey because she grew up poor but managed to study medicine and come so far. She's now working at a centre (in Europe) where they expect her to work 24h a day. She reaffirmed her boundaries stating she won't work all day because, by contract, work hours are limited so she can study. She's facing so much hostility but she doesn't step back one bit. She keeps calm and she manages to be adamant but always kind. I've never met anyone who, in the face of a workplace problem, could speak up and be honest. I've always seen people complain angrily, but in secret. No backbone. So much anger but no self worth, not even enough to walk away. This young doctor fights everyday and despite everything, her tutors recognize she's efficient and knowledgeable, and that her proposals to organize the team workload are very valid. She strives to become the best doctor she can be for the patients and she wants to know all she can learn.
This example of my friends shakes me and I felt Dr. Peterson was talking about something like this. The strength to be honest and work hard towards a positive goal (having good ethics) can make you an invaluable professional no matter what profession you do. And just like my friend, you suffer but you know it's fine, it's worth it. You're going somewhere. It won't be forever. Resentment won't eat you up until it spoils every good thing you have and makes you numb and selfish permanently. I've seen those people too and believe me, it's terrifying (they're like dead inside although they seem normal) and it DOES kill everything around them. It kills marriages, family businesses, everything will be as zombie-like. They don't know or care if they need help, they get help and they don't improve one bit.
I must mention that my doctor friend listens to her conscience. We're both fervent Catholics. She knows how to recognize when something threatens her self worth and she has an antidote, she knows and sees God loves her. She sees God fighting alongside her to help people who suffer. She had the courage to believe she was called to something big, because she saw the same upward trajectory of life in the lives of the saints. I hope I can be like her (and man, does she uplift me, just by being herself!) and I enjoyed knowing more about the anthropological, sociological and economical side of our attitude towards life thanks to this amazing speech.

7:35 "The things that you do and that you don't do are far more important than you think!"
Thank you, sir. So, so much.

The ending really describes what we have today. Countless victims pushing their issues as burdens onto society with no accountability or self-responsibility. It certainly feels hellish.

This is truly the best of Jordan Peterson, and I wish he focused even more on this message. It is very powerful

When you see JP in a dingy, grey lecture hall from this era you know he's about to drop some absolute GEMS!

If you're aligned with Dr Peterson's mentality of taking on more personal responsibility and pushing yourself to complete arduous but rewarding work then I believe you'll resonate with my exploration of this topic, entitled "Comfort Vs Growth"

Dr Peterson, you are right on all accounts. I stopped caring as a child. It was easy to let everything fall apart because of my pain. I stopped trying because I was told I couldnt do it by the media and schools and even counselors. I told myself I didnt care about anything because to care meant to be vulnerable and I was comfortable in the pain I knew so I avoided the pain I didnt know. It still caused me pain but I told myself I didnt care. I am now trying to care and I am trying to live and participate in life after my rock bottom. I am rebuilding my life in ALL aspects. While I never fully made others take care of me, I wasnt far from it. I worked when I could and and did manage to keep functioning but at a bare minimum capacity. I finally got the right kind of help and applied myself to doing the work instead of waiting for the meds to cure me. My son told me to listen to this guy Jordan Peterson and between Jesus, my Psychologist and you I am now more then I would have ever thought possible and my family is healing my connections are becoming better people and I am slowly figuring out how to be. I come from a long history of abuse and neglect since as far back as my memory goes. I kept making bad choices because I knew how to negotiate that pain. I have gone from almost complete bed ridden 5 years ago to now riding a bike for the first time in decades, working, church, volunteering in community civic groups and being the parent I should have been. The difference was I surrendered to Christ and I held Him to His word and He came through even in the rough times, as long as I didnt give up. Without your presentations you have posted here for free I may not have become who I am. You have given me direction and insight. The truth is in the low class poverty environment we never learned and yes as an adult we still need someone to teach us and life skills courses are out of my price range. I could never afford to pay you for what you have given me. Thank you.

Can you imagine hearing this in an undergraduate classroom? You could chew on this message for years, and here he is handing it to college students.

It's so interesting going so far back in time, watching what was and what could and should be. Imagine if university students got this information and left university actually in formation, psychologically.

Jordan i listened to you about meaning and ideas. I just wanted to express that meaning to me does have absolutes but it all came together via the biological brain map that lets you recall concepts so easy after studying biology and optimum brain information for many years. Thank you for your wonderful shares with Lawrence Krauss.
