After 12 years I am not an insider and never will be, sure it's nice but it's never permanent I have the same rights as someone who's just arrived. Perception of Dubai is that its expensive but there are many deals to be had. Setting up bank accounts, utilities can be a nightmare, be prepared to be patient and persistent once done then everything is pretty easy to get sorted out.
