In my early childhood, say, beginning at five years of age, my top five women singers were: Ethel Waters, Billie Holiday, Lena Horne, Ivie Anderson, and Adelaide Hall. This is not to say there weren't more. I was born under segregation which explains the list being ethnic. Top five male singers: Nat Cole, Billy Eckstine, Jimmy Rushing, Al Hibbler, and Billy Daniels. Of course, the list is much wider.
